Item attachments not deleted entirely

I am not if I completely understand the purpose behind this. If so please educate me.

Once a file is attached it resides on the server, correct? Lets say a user wants to attach a document to an Item and then later wants to delete that attachment.  I thought that was what the 'delete' action within the Item Attachment grid did but I can see it only removes it from the item. This could be misleading and eventually leave a lot of clutter on the server. I also see the potential problem with users deleting item attachments they selected from the server and thus deleting the file entirely.

Re: Item attachments not deleted entirely

The physical attachments are stored on the server. When you upload an attachment either from the project view or from an Item a reference to that attachments is stored in the database. If the Item is removed the physical attachment is not removed. However if the attachment is removed from the project level it is removed completely (Unless it's associated with an Item in which case Contour won't allow the attachment to be removed)

We are planning on doing a lot in this area to enable better document management functionality.
