In the past I’ve used other requirements management tools and
from my initial investigation I’m very impressed with contour. One feature that most requirements management
tools provide is the concept of tracing relationships and contour does this as
well.
So my question is would it be possible to add just a little
more functionality to the relationship concept for example the ability to tag a
relationship, or add a comment field, or ideally the ability to customize
attributes in the same way that artifacts are customizable with user defined
fields to decorate the core functionality of relationships?
This would allow the user to store information about the
relationship on the relationship and not force it to one end or the other.
I agree - and this has come up in recent discussions. We're extending the customization ability to the product / project artifact for our 2.0 release and will be scheduling when to roll out customizations for relationships after that. We can always add fields through professional services but want to provide this ability to users via the web front end.
This will likely also include the ability to define when relationships are required (configurable) - for example setting Contour to auto-create relationships for parent & child items as well as workflow triggers to create a test case when a use case is created.
