What can readonly do?

I received a question today from someone evaluating Contour surrounding the readonly account. Currently Contour comes with unlimited readonly accounts. We did this to enable teams to involve people outside the core team without having to purchase licenses. To make this readonly useful we felt that they should have the ability to comment at a minimum. The request that came up was whether or not the readonly could also be given the ability to upload an attachment, such that if they are posting a comment that refers to some document, they could upload the attachment and point thier comment to it.

I personally like this idea but can't help but wonder a few things.

How far should we go giving readonly abilities to do something before it's no longer "readonly"?
Are there other areas that makes sense from a readonly aspect, like adding tags?

One additional thought might be that, once we have fine grained security, we could change the license to be more an "unlimited users with 2 or less access rights". So, you could add a user and give them rights to comment and add attachments and it wouldn't count as a license. However if you add a third right, say to edit tags you'd then have to assign a license to the user.

Thoughts?

Re: What can readonly do?

I don't think uploading a file for read-only access is a good idea unless it can be toggled on/off. It would be good to allow an administrator to delete or modify comments (e.g. - mark as acknowledged and action taken). For us, the comment field is an important part of our requirmeent review process. But we are also missing the ability to toggle e-mail notification when new comments are created.
